Like most readers, I have a list of books that I want to read. This is a a long list that I’ve been adding to for years, and it grows by the day. There are books here that I want to read someday, others that I will likely read next week, and several that made it to the list because they seem interesting, but I don’t know whether I’ll ever actually pick them up or not.
Taste is reading is one of those idiosyncratic things, and which book I want to read next is guided as much by my mood as my taste in general. But regardless of what I plan to read next, I like having a bunch of books to choose from, so I buy books and I add new titles to my TBR.
I have long wishlists of books sorted by genre. I like going through my lists from time to time, buying a couple of books from them, plus another four that I just heard about or came upon as I was browsing my local bookshop.
I feel overwhelmed by the TBR sometimes, and I wonder when and if and how I will ever read all the books that I want to read, but the way I see it, this is a good problem to have.
